Basket of Books

It's a good thing this is still our favorite activity, because it's too cold to go outside here in Buffalo. This is still what we do most days (not always in the bathroom)...although, James is reading Melville instead of Time magazine, and my days are filled with good old (notice: old) Andrew Gray. Quiet days. And we still keep a basket of books in the bathroom- right now, Lewis's Problem of Pain and Jacques Prevert's Paroles. Prevert's poetry is lovely and aching. Here is one of my favorites, and probably his most famous poem.

DÉJEUNER DU MATIN

Il a mis le café
Dans la tasse
Il a mis le lait
Dans la tasse de café
Il a mis le sucre
Dans le café au lait
Et il a reposé la tasse
Sans me parler
Il a allumé
Une cigarette
Il a fait des ronds
Avec la fumée
Il a mis les cendres
Dans le cendrier
Sans me parler
Sans me regarder
Il s'est levé
Il a mis
Son chapeau sur sa tête
Il a mis
Son manteau de pluie
Parce qu'il pleuvait
Et il est parti
Sous la pluie
Sans une parole
Sans me regarder
Et moi j'ai pris
Ma tête dans ma main
Et j'ai pleuré.

Morning Breakfast

He put the coffee
Into the cup
He put the milk
Into the cup of coffee
He put the sugar
Into the cafe au lait
With the little spoon
He stirred
He drank the coffee
And he replaced the cup
Without speaking to me
He lit
A cigarette
He made rings
With the smoke
He put the ashes
Into the ashtray
Without speaking to me
Without looking to me
He stood up
He put
His hat upon his head
He put
His raincoat on
Because it was raining
And he left
Without one word
And me I placed
My head in my hand
And I cried.

No Energy To Vacuum

wow. we're officially joining the world of the wireless and the naked. i mean, naked to the outside world. i don't really know why we're making a blog except for the reason that i like looking at other peoples' blogs. and it's a wierd way to stay in touch without having to talk. i get phone phobia a lot, so i guess this will help. enough said. the real reason is that i'm sick at home, and don't have enough energy to vacuum, which is my preferred activity. So, I'm bored out of my mind, and this was my last resort.

i'll post some wedding pics, because that's what we've got now. enjoy!

cheers, friends.
